Oliver Twist

Okay - two really good movies in a row!!! I have to admit to not normally liking period pieces - too Victorian or prissy right? But envisioning of Oliver Twist by Roman Polanski absolutely rocks! Phenomenal cinematography - each scene is framed perfectly with right lighting and depth. The story has the twists and turns that Charles Dickens was famous for but minus the cheesyness of the musical version.

The acting was also simply remarkable and in my opinion this film should be nominated for a few Oscars. Ben Kingsley plays the part of Fagin, a homely but hilarious master of a pickpocket ring of adolescent boys. Barney Clark, although unknown, also plays his part of Oliver Twist with a remarkable blend of innocence and charm. There is no weak actor in this film. Five Stars, excellent date film - your significant other will love this movie as well! It actually provides some insight into North America's current problem with gangs only in a completely different timeline.

A classic five star 10/10!

My Date With Drew

You know those days when you want to watch a new release but they are all out! Well sometimes a guy just takes the gamble and picks something that looks like it has some potential and hope for the best. My Date With Drew was one of those. It's a documentary with an amazing aim, here's the scoop:
Here's the deal. Brian has been crazy about Drew since the 2nd grade when he first saw her in E.T. So now it's 20 years later and he figured since she hasn't come knockin' on his door, he's gonna have to make the first move.

Problem...

She's Drew Barrymore!

But wait, it's not as crazy as you might think. See, Brian figured he'd combine his two great passions in life - making movies and Drew Barrymore - and document his quest to meet Drew. That way he will represent the "everyman", and his quest will seem noble... instead of just desperate.

Next problem...

Brian is completely broke. And he doesn't even own a video camera to make this documentary. Fortunately, he recently won $1,100 on a game show! So he figured it must be fate. He will use this cash prize to seize the moment and pursue his dream. And as it turns out, you don't even need any money to buy a video camera these days, thanks to Circuit City's 30-day Return Policy. So he grabbed a friend's credit card and picked out the most expensive camera in the store, knowing he will have to finish his documentary before the camera has to go back.

So now Brian has 30 days and $1,100 to get a date with Drew Barrymore.

The documentary is hilarious and worth the rent! Its not necessarily a movie you would watch more than once but I have to say I haven't laughed out loud while watching a movie in quite awhile. Everyone I've talked to who has watched really felt for Brian the main character - as loopy as his goal was! So there you go - in the mood for a funny quirky documentary movie - watch My Date With Drew!!!

I'm giving it a 8.5/10 for overall entertainment and a 9/10 for all out laughs that occur!
